Your Emirates ID must be renewed before it expires — or within a 30-day grace period. Miss that window and you'll pay AED 20 per day in late fines, capped at AED 1,000. Here's the fastest 2026 process.
When to renew
ICP typically sends an SMS reminder 30 days before expiry. You can legally apply for renewal up to 6 months in advance, so if you're travelling, renew early.

The three renewal channels
- ICP smart services app (icp.gov.ae / UAEICP app) — fastest if your biometrics are still on file.
- Accredited typing centre — walk-in, they type and submit; best if you don't read Arabic.
- Service provider like Visa Simplified — we handle the full process and deliver the card.
Documents required

Frequently asked
Is renewal automatic? No — ICP sends reminders but you must initiate renewal.
Can I travel on an expired Emirates ID? You can exit UAE with a valid passport, but re-entry and day-to-day services (banks, telecom) will be blocked without a valid ID.
