The medical fitness test is mandatory for any UAE residence visa (new or renewal). It screens for communicable diseases that could trigger a visa rejection.
Where to take it
- Dubai: DHA-approved centres — Airport Medical Fitness, Ekhlas Medical Fitness, Karama Medical Fitness, and others.
- Abu Dhabi: SEHA screening centres (Al Ain, Musaffah, Abu Dhabi city).
- Northern Emirates: MOHAP centres in Sharjah, Ajman, RAK, Fujairah, UAQ.
What it screens for
- HIV
- Hepatitis B and C
- Syphilis
- Tuberculosis (chest X-ray)
- Pregnancy test (for certain occupations)
Additional panels apply for food handlers, salon staff, nannies, and healthcare workers.

If you fail
A positive result for HIV or active TB typically leads to visa rejection and deportation. Hepatitis is reviewed case-by-case — some occupations (healthcare, food handling) are excluded, others still qualify. Consult a specialist before re-testing.
