Every UAE Service Tied to Your Emirates ID: Banking, DEWA, Salik, RTA & UAE Pass

Your Emirates ID is the backbone of life in the UAE. A 2026 reference for every government and private service it unlocks — banking, utilities, RTA, health, Dubai Now, and UAE Pass.

Most new residents underestimate how deeply the Emirates ID is wired into UAE life. It is not just an identity card — it is the master key for every digital service from your DEWA bill to your RTA fines, your Salik tag, your medical records, and your bank's KYC file. Lose it or let it expire, and dozens of services freeze in lockstep.

Banking — KYC, account opening, and ongoing checks

UAE banks are required by the Central Bank to use the Emirates ID as the primary KYC document for residents. The 15-digit EID number is your account's master reference. Practical implications:

  • You cannot open an account without a valid printed EID (digital ID via UAE Pass is increasingly accepted but not universal).
  • Cards, cheques, and online banking freeze automatically the day your EID expires.
  • Salary credits via WPS use your EID for routing — a stale EID can delay payroll.
  • Mortgage applications, brokerage accounts, and fixed deposits all require a current EID copy on file.

DEWA, ADDC, SEWA — utilities

Dubai's DEWA, Abu Dhabi's ADDC, and Sharjah's SEWA all require the Emirates ID number to open an account, link a property, and process the AED 2,000 refundable deposit. Once linked, your EID is the login for the DEWA Smart app and the auto-enrolment ID for Smart Living programmes.

Salik & Darb — toll systems

Dubai's Salik tag and Abu Dhabi's Darb account are both registered against the EID of the vehicle's primary user. EID expiry blocks recharges on Darb and prevents tag pairing on Salik. RTA also uses the EID to allocate Nol cards (metro/bus) and parking app permits.

Health — DHA, Riayati, Malaffi, and SEHA

Your medical history is stitched together across emirates using your EID:

  • Riayati (federal) — unified health record, accessible by any DHA, MOHAP, or SEHA-licensed doctor.
  • Nabidh (Dubai) — DHA's data exchange platform; EID number is the primary patient ID.
  • Malaffi (Abu Dhabi) — SEHA's equivalent, also keyed on EID.
  • Insurance claims, e-prescriptions, vaccination records, and Sehhaty appointments all flow through the same identifier.

RTA — driving licence, vehicle registration, fines

RTA Dubai (and equivalent authorities in other emirates) link the following to your EID:

  • Driving licence — issuance and renewal both require a valid EID.
  • Vehicle registration (Mulkiya) — the owner field reads from your EID file.
  • Traffic fines — settlement via the RTA app requires EID login, often via UAE Pass.
  • Parking permits and Nol top-up via the RTA app.

Dubai Now & TAMM — government super-apps

Dubai Now bundles 130+ services from 30+ government entities behind one login, and the login is your UAE Pass — which itself is bound to your EID. Abu Dhabi's TAMM does the same for ADGM, ADDED, and ADJD services. Examples of what you can do in one click once your EID is current:

  • Pay traffic fines, Salik, Etisalat, du, DEWA, Empower district cooling.
  • Renew vehicle registration, driving licence, business licence.
  • Submit a police report, request a Good Conduct Certificate, book health appointments.
  • Issue Ejari, register a tenancy contract, file a rental dispute.

UAE Pass — your federal digital identity

UAE Pass is the national digital identity, available to anyone with a valid Emirates ID. Once activated, you can:

  • Sign documents digitally with the same legal weight as a wet signature.
  • Log in to 6,000+ public and private services without a separate username/password.
  • Verify your identity for crypto exchanges, brokerages, and regulated platforms.
  • Receive secure communications from federal authorities (ICP, MOHRE, MOFA).

UAE Pass tiers are Visitor, Verified (after a centre visit), and Corporate. Most paid government transactions require Verified.

Telecom — Etisalat / du / Virgin

You cannot buy a SIM card, fixed line, or fibre internet without an EID. Each EID is capped at 10 active SIMs across all networks. Closing a residence visa cancels the EID and triggers an automatic block on all linked numbers within 30 days unless transferred.

Property & Ejari

The Dubai Land Department, Ejari, ADM Tawtheeq (Abu Dhabi), and Sharjah Real Estate Department all use the EID as the primary tenant or owner identifier. A property cannot be registered, transferred, or rented without a valid EID for both parties.

Education

School enrolment, KHDA, ADEK, and federal MOE systems all index students and parents on EID. Children's vaccination records, transport passes, and KHDA inspection access are all EID-keyed.

Frequently asked

Is my EID number permanent? Yes — the 15-digit number stays with you for life, even across multiple residence visas and visa cancellations.

Do I need a printed card if I have UAE Pass? For most digital workflows, no. For airport exits, in-branch banking, and police checkpoints, yes.

Does the EID work after I leave the UAE? The card is cancelled when your residence is cancelled, but the underlying file number stays — useful if you return.

Can a tourist get an EID? No. Only citizens and residents are eligible. Tourist activity is tracked under the passport number.
